Meet La Orotava, a remarkable town and municipality in the north of Tenerife, one of the Canary Islands. It stretches from the northern coast to the mountainous area, including the peak of the volcano Teide — the highest point of the islands and Spain, at an altitude of 3718 m.

With a total area of 207.31 km², La Orotava is the largest municipality on the island of Tenerife, with a population of 42,454 as of 2023. The city, located in the Orotava Valley at an altitude of about 400 meters above sea level, is 4 km southeast of Puerto de la Cruz and 28 km southwest of the island's capital, Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The TF-5 motorway runs through the northern part of the municipality.

The coat of arms of La Orotava, approved by Alfonso XIII in 1906, symbolizes the mythology of the Garden of the Hesperides, which is believed to have been located here. In terms of cuisine, La Orotava is famous for its wines with the protected designation of origin Valle de La Orotava.

The historic center of La Orotava was declared a historic complex in 1976 and included in the Inventory for the Protection of European Cultural Heritage and Monuments. It is particularly significant that a large part of Teide National Park, a World Heritage Site since 2007, is located within the municipality. La Orotava is also the highest town in Spain and one of the steepest — the municipality extends from sea level to 3718 meters — the height of Teide.
