Description

Paseo Marítimo de Arrieta and Calle la Garita on the island of Lanzarote, Canary Islands, Spain, are unique places that combine a traditional Canarian atmosphere with picturesque seascapes.

Description

Arrieta is a small coastal town in the north-east of Lanzarote, known for its laid-back atmosphere and authentic Canarian culture. The Arrieta promenade, or Paseo Marítimo de Arrieta, offers visitors the opportunity to enjoy walks along the coast, admiring views of the Atlantic Ocean and traditional architecture. Calle la Garita runs parallel to the promenade and leads to the popular Playa de la Garita beach, known for its golden sandy strip and calm waters.

What to see

  1. Playa de la Garita: This beach is about 800 metres long with golden sand and calm waters and is ideal for families and surfers. The beach is equipped with showers, changing rooms and a number of restaurants serving fresh seafood.
  2. El Amanecer Restaurant: Located on the seafront, this restaurant is renowned for its fresh fish and traditional Canarian dishes. The terrace offers stunning ocean views, making it popular with locals and tourists alike.
  3. Casa Juanita: Known as the ‘Blue House’, this brightly coloured house is one of Arrieta's architectural landmarks. Located near the beach, it stands out for its unique design and colour scheme.
  4. El Charcón de Arrieta: this charming natural pool is located on the seafront of Arrieta, next to the unique Casa Juanita, also known as the ‘Chinese House’ because of its unusual design and bright colours. Protected by a natural stone breakwater, this pool offers calm waters for swimming, especially at mid or full tidal phase. El Charcón's location makes it ideal for those seeking privacy and tranquillity away from crowded beaches. It is recommended to visit during high tide to enjoy the full volume of water in the pool.

How to get there

  • By car: From the island's capital, Arrecife, take the LZ-1 motorway northwards. The journey will take about 25 minutes.
  • By bus: There are buses from Arrecife to Arrieta. Once you arrive in Arrieta, the beach and seafront are within walking distance.

A visit to Arrieta's seafront and Calle la Garita will allow you to enjoy the tranquillity of a traditional Canarian town, beautiful beaches and delicious local cuisine, making your Lanzarote trip an unforgettable experience.

Attractions nearby

There are several unique attractions in the vicinity of Arrieta that are well worth a visit:

  1. Jameos del Agua: Located about 7 kilometres north of Arrieta, this complex is a combination of natural lava caves and architectural elements created by César Manrique. It features an underground salt lake with unique blind crabs (Munidopsis polymorpha), a restaurant, gardens and a concert hall with excellent acoustics.
  2. Cueva de los Verdes: Located 2 kilometres from Jameos del Agua. This cave is part of the same lava tunnel as Jameos del Agua and offers guided tours through impressive underground galleries, lit to emphasise their natural beauty. The cave also served as a refuge for locals during pirate raids.
  3. Jardín de Cactus: Located in the village of Guatiza, about 10 kilometres south of Arrieta, this garden designed by César Manrique displays over 4,500 cacti from different parts of the world. The garden is located in an old volcanic ash quarry, which gives it a unique landscape design.

A visit to these attractions will give you a deeper understanding of Lanzarote's natural and cultural heritage, enriching your trip with new experiences.
